Both my girls are getting older which includes outgrowing their previously favorite toys. We’ve recently gone through their room, weeding out the unwanted toys and trying to update it slightly for their new loves. My oldest daughter loves to draw, and for her we organized all of her crafty stuff and got her desk in tip top shape. Thanks to pinterest I’ve been really interested in “upcycling” things to fill various needs around the house.
When she first found out I was planning to use cans of fruit cocktail and spaghetti o’s to organize her stuff my daughter looked at me as if I were nuts. I urged her to trust me and continued on with the project. First we cleaned them up (of course) and spray painted them a gorgeous pastel green. After they dried I dug through my paper stash and found this sparkly diamond pattern. When my daughter squealed “I like that!” I knew I had a winner. I applied a lot of adhesive and wrapped the different layers of papers one at a time. When a can was complete I put several rubber bands around it to help reinforce the adhesive.
In the morning we removed the rubber-bands and filled the cans up. Thankfully she absolutely loves her new pretty containers, as do I. Not only are her colored pencils, gel pens and decorative scissors easily accessible, the solution was seriously economical since all I bought was the spray paint.
